Summit emphasising inclusivity concludes

The three-day 7th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Centres Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit 2024 came to a close at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.

The summit, themed ‘Embracing Inclusivity in Education, Science, and Culture Towards a Future-Ready Southeast Asia’, was joined by participants from various countries.

Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour.

The acting permanent secretary said the summit acknowledged inclusivity as crucial both morally and strategically in today’s fast-changing world. It served as a beacon key in shaping policies and strategies to foster inclusivity and sustainable development.

He said the research and advocacy efforts have significantly contributed to positive changes throughout the region. The summit emphasised on the importance of equitable access to quality education, science and culture, irrespective of individuals’ backgrounds, gender, ethnicity or any other differentiating factor. Through engaging presentations and constructive dialogues centred on the theme, attendees delved deep into discussions aimed at fostering a more inclusive Southeast Asia.

SEAMEO Secretariat Director Datuk Dr Habibah binti Abdul Rahim as co-chair of SEAMEO CPRN Summit 2024 expressed optimism regarding the development of policy recommendations stemming from the deliberations. She expressed her staunch support for ongoing research endeavours and the dissemination of findings from the submitted papers, foreseeing a positive trajectory for the region’s educational landscape.

The event saw the guest of honour present certificates to keynote speakers, presenters, moderators and organisers.

Chief Executive Officer of Institute of Brunei Technical Education and Director of Technical Education Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli as governing chairman of SEAMEO Vocational and Technical Education and Training (Voctech) and co-advisor of SEAMEO CPRN Summit 2024 as well as SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre Director Haji Norjemee bin Jenek were also present. – Rokiah Mahmud
